Volatility – Weekly Analysis

A brutal session—exactly why we’re opening this week with VIX. Volatility just flashed a cluster of rare, high-signal reads. We’ll parse the candles, momentum, and key levels to gauge what this means for the S&P 500, near-term risk, and timing. Short, sharp, and essential for anyone trading, entering, or hedging.

Today, VIX delivered a strong bearish message on the daily and weekly frames.

Weekly: Three of the four instruments I track closed with major failures—bulls couldn’t confirm a weekly reversal, and odds now favor bears. The circled combo is technically a bottom, though the supporting signals are mixed; we’ll keep it on the radar next week.

Daily: A strong run of bearish candles across instruments. Prominent Gravestone Doji point lower. That said, such doji are sometimes followed by attempts to negate them, so 1–2 days of higher prices are possible before bulls capitulate.

My read: short/mid-term odds lean bearish, but early next week could see a brief push higher.

From the monthly review: “One more thought: this volatility spike may tie into developments around the government shutdown. The uncertainty on the monthly candles suggests they’re prepared for either outcome, but taken with the shorter frames, it looks like the candles are leaning toward a higher probability that the deadlock is resolved in the first two weeks of November.”uggests they’re “prepared” for either outcome, but taken with the shorter frames, it looks like the candles are leaning toward a higher probability that the deadlock is resolved in the first two weeks of November.”
